Mango Fish Curry

 Raw Mango Fish Curry, also known as "Meen Manga Curry" in Malayalam, is a traditional South Indian dish that combines the tangy flavor of raw mangoes with the rich taste of fish. Here’s a simple recipe to make this delicious curry:

Ingredients

  • Fish pieces 500 gm
  • Grated coconut 1cup
  • Turmeric Powder 1/2 tsp
  • Chilli Powder 1/2 tbsp
  • Salt
  • Green chilli 4
  • Curry leaves
  • Green mango pieces peeled and cleaned( I had taken half of a big mango,if it is small you can take the whole )
  • Tamarind pulp(you can add tamarind pulp if the raw mango isn't sour enough.)
  • Coconut oil 3tbsp
  • Mustard seeds
  • Fenugreek seeds
  • Small onion Chopped 4
  • Curry Leaves

Method 

        1.    Preparation of Fish:          

  •      Clean the fish and cut it into pieces. Keep it aside.

        2.Grind the Grated Coconut and Spices:

  •  Grind the grated coconut with turmeric powder and red chilli powder to a smooth paste. 
 Making the Curry Base: 
  • Pour the coconut paste into a clay pot.
  • Add green chilies and curry leaves.
  • Add salt to taste and the required amount of water. Mix well.
  • Boil the coconut paste.



        4. Adding Fish and Mango:


  • When the gravy starts to boil, add the cleaned fish pieces and mango slices.
  • Cover and cook for about 10-15 minutes, until the fish is done and the mango pieces are tender.


        5.Adjusting Sourness:

  • Check the sourness of the gravy after five minutes. If the gravy lacks sourness, add 1-2 tablespoons of tamarind pulp. Boil again.


        6.Seasoning
:
  •  In a separate pan, heat coconut oil.
  • Add mustard seeds and fenugreek seeds. Let them splutter.
  • Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  • Add the seasoned onions into the gravy and mix.


Serve hot with steamed rice or Kerala red rice.
