Pineapple Curry
Kerala pineapple curry, also known as "Pineapple Pulissery," is a popular traditional dish from the Indian state of Kerala. It is a vegetarian dish that is made using pineapple and yogurt as the main ingredients.
Ingredients
- Pineapple 1/2(Cut into small pieces)
- Turmeric Powder 1/2 tsp
- Chilli powder 1/4 tsp
- Salt
- Sugar 1tsp
- Grated coconut 1/2 cup
- Cumin seeds 1/4 tsp
- Mustard seeds 1/4 tsp
- Water 1/2 cup
- Green chilli 1-2
- Coconut oil 2tsp
- Mustard seeds
- Fenugreek seeds 1/4 tsp
- Curry leaves
- Dry chilli
Method
To make Kerala pineapple curry, first, pineapple chunks are cooked in water with turmeric, red chilli powder, and salt until they become tender. Then, a ground paste made of grated coconut, cumin seeds,mustard seeds and green chillies is added to the cooked pineapple. The mixture is then simmered until the flavors are well combined.You can add 1tsp of sugar/Jaggery for better sweetness.This is optional.
After this, whisked yogurt is added to the pineapple mixture and heated on low flame. The dish is then seasoned with mustard seeds, curry leaves,fenugreek seeds and dry red chillies that are tempered in hot oil. This tempering gives the dish a unique flavor and aroma.
Kerala pineapple curry is usually served with steamed rice and is a perfect combination of sweet, sour, and spicy flavors. It is a refreshing and healthy dish that is perfect for any occasion.
