Unniyappam With Rice


Unni appam, is a small round snack made from rice, jaggery, banana, roasted coconut pieces, roasted sesame seeds, ghee and cardamom powder fried in oil/ghee. There are some variations for making these snacks in certain regions. Instead of banana we can use jackfruit preserves or mango preserves  and taste slightly  different from normal unni appam.We can deep fry these snacks in coconut oil/ghee by using unni appam Pan /Chatti. One main difference i have noticed while making unni appam is that unni appam fried in ghee has amazing tastes rather than fried in oil.

Ingredients

  • Raw rice 1 cup
  • Jaggery Powder 1/2 cup
  • Mysore Banana 3
  • Salt 1/4 tsp
  • Water 1/2 cup
  • Coconut Bits 1/4 cup
  • Ghee
  • Sesame seeds 1/2 tsp
  • Baking soda(optional)
  • Cardamom Powder 1/2 tsp
