Tasty Papaya/Omakka Masala Curry




Today I am here with tasty Papaya Curry.It resembles like chicken curry but does not use any chicken.Normally keralites are making this dish for lunch/dinner beacause papayas are abundantly available in our courtyard.It is made using coconut,onion and some spices. Enjoy this dish with hot roti/Rice

Ingredients
  • Green Papaya half(Cut into small  cubes)
  • Grated Coconut  1/2 cup
  • Fennel seeds 1/2 tsp
  • Coconut oil 3tbsp
  • Small  onion sliced 20
  • Big onion 1 sliced
  • Curry Leaves
  • Coconut bits 1/4 cup
  • Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
  • Chilli powder  2tsp
  • Coriander Powder 1 1/4 tbsp
  • Garam Masala  powder 1/2 tsp 
  • Salt
  • Water 1/4 cup for  grind coconut
  • Water for curry 1-2cup
  • Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
Method

  • Take a raw papaya and cut into two equal halves .Take half of the Papaya for this recipe.
  • Peel off the skin and discard the seeds .
  • Cut into small cubes
  • Wash many times,drain water and keep aside.
  • Heat a pan and add 2 tbsp of Coconut oil in it.
  • When the oil becomes hot splutter 1/2 tsp of Fennelseeds.
  • Add in grated coconut and curryleaves,fry until coconut becomes light brown colour.
  • Add in Turmeric Powder,Chilli Powder and Coriander Powder.Fry on low heat and switch off the flame.
  • Let the fried coconut cool down.
  • Once it is cooled down transfer this into chutney jar and grind well.Then add a little water and grind into a smooth coconut paste. 
  • Heat 2 tsp of coconut oil in another pan and splutter mustard seeds
  • Add in sliced small onion ,big onion  and curry leaves.
  • Add a little salt and saute well.
  • Add in coconut bits and saute.
  • Add in ginger garlic paste and saute well until the raw smell goes.
  • Add in Papaya pieces and saute for 3 minutes on medium heat.
  • Add in fried Coconut Paste and  1 cup of water and mix well.
  • Add more salt if required.
  • Add in garam masala and mix well.
  • Cover and cook on medium heat for five minutes.
  • After  five minutes open the lid and stir well. 
  • Cover and cook on low heat until oil visible on the top.
  • Remove from heat and serve with matta rice/Chappathi.
