Here are some tips to keep you safe in kitchen while handling Pressure cooker.

  1. When you use the pressurecooker for the first time you should read the instruction book of the Pressur Cooker which you bought.
  2. Close supervision is necessary when the pressure cooker is used near children.
  3. Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles.
  4. Always check that the steam vent / vent tube is clear immediately before closing the lid for pressure cooking.
  5. When starting to pressure cook, close the lid WITHOUT the pressure regulator / vent weight in position on the steam vent . Place the pressure regulator/ vent weight on the steam vent ONLY AFTER steam starts to come out of the steam vent steadily.
  6.  Use  enough liquid for cooking.Always place water as indicated in each recipe or chart in the pressure cooker body before pressure cooking.
  7. Be aware that certain foods, such as applesauce, cranberries, pearl barley, oatmeal or other cereals, split peas, noodles, macaroni, rhubarb or spaghetti can foam, froth and sputter, and clog the pressure release device (steam vent). These foods should not be cooked in a pressure cooker.
  8. Never attempt to force open the pressure cooker. Do not open the pressure cooker until the unit has cooled and internal pressure has been released.
  9. Never use the cooker body made of aluminium for deep frying or light frying for more than 20 minutes at a time or as an oven for dry heating or baking, since the strength of the metal may decrease to a dangerous level.
  10. Pressure cooker bodies should not be used as an oven for dry heating or baking as this can affect the safety of the cooker.
  11. Finally clean the cooker properly after each use.
  •  To clean the cooker properly after cooking you should wait until the body of the         cooker is completly cooled down.
  • Remove the gasket and wash it separately, along with the lid and the pot.Gently wipe or wash and rinse the sealing ring without stretching it.
  • Check that the steam vent is clear after rinsing. If it is clogged, clean by using a needle or wooden tooth pick, makes sure it moves freely and isn't stuck.
12.  After cleaning the cooker keep the lid upside down on the pot rather than locked in place.
