Unnakkai || Evening Snacks
Unnakkai/Unnakaya is a spindle shaped snacks made from plantain. It originated from the Malabar region of Kerala, and is often eaten at weddings, Iftar and other festivities.But now a days in other parts of the Kerala people make these snacks and is served as evening snacks. The main ingredient of the snack is steamed and mashed plantain.People make these snacks in different ways. Here i am showing the recipe of unnakkai without egg.
Ingredients
1.Ripe Plantains/Banana 3 (Do not use over ripe banana)
2.Coconut 1/2 cup(You can use Aval /Poha instead of coconut)
3.Raisins 2 tbsp
4.Cashew nuts(roghly chopped) 2-3 tsp
5.Ghee 3tsp
6.Sugar(Brown/White) 3tbsp
7.Cardamom Powder 1/2 tsp
8.Oil(for frying)
Note:
1.Do not over cook the bananas, it will become watery and will become difficult to hold.
2.Do not use over ripe plantains.
